The community was founded by Father Joseph Kentenich in 1942 in the so-called "hell of Dacau" (the concentration camp erected by the national socialists). Father Kentenich was contemplating the possibility of establishing a "novel brotherhood" twenty years earlier, comprising professional men who live the spirit of the gospel in their profession and help change things. However it was during the time in the concentration camp in Dachau that divine providence led Dr Edward Pesendorfer (1904-1974) to him. Together with him Father Kentenich founded the community. Mario Hiriart was declared by the founder Father Joseph Kentenich to be an ideal for all who are called to live this novel form of brotherhood. foundation and founder
